Exegesis: An Introduction
This is a short video designed to introduce people to a particular approach to exegesis. I specifically created it to help Methodist Local Preachers and Worship Leaders with their exegesis as they prepare for services.
As part of my role with the Methodist Church I work alongside established and trainee Local Preachers and Worship Leaders who, when preparing for worship, are encouraged to utilise an approach to exegesis based on Holgate and Starr’s book “Biblical Hermeneutics”. A number of resources have been developed to help individuals with their preparation and reflection and to guide them through the exegetical process. However, i have often encountered some confusion as to what exactly the process involves.
So I created this video as a short guide to help LP’s and WL’s understand both the value of exegesis and the different stages of the ‘Holgate and Starr method’ that Methodism propagates. It’s nothing fancy, but hopefully it helps people think through some of the important questions we can bring to the Bible and which may help us better understand it.
